George Thomas Hege

George Thomas Hege, 78, of Lexington, peacefully passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, at his home.

Born on October 9, 1946, in Lexington, NC, George was son to the late Thomas Hawkins Hege and Mary Musgrave Hege. George was truly one of kind. He had a larger-than-life personality with a heart to match. George never met a stranger and would give anyone the shirt off his back if they needed it. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy Moore Hege, and his sister, Era Belle Hege.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter; Karen Johnson (Jimmy) of Lexington; son, Gregory Hege (Cheryl); 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; and a host of other extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends and relatives on June 27, 2025, from 1-2pm, at Paul’s Chapel, 2791 West Center St. Ext. Lexington, NC 27295, Lexington, NC, with a memorial service following starting at 2pm with Pastor Aaron Long officiating.

    We are family friends who only met George once but wish we had got to know him better. From hearing stories about George it is obvious that he loved and cared deeply about his family. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

    My deepest sympathy to everyone in the family. George was definitely unique. He and Dorothy were very generous with their home and hospitality. They welcomed me like family any time I visited and let me live with them for two months while I helped take care of Brandi. I love you all.
