Della Mae Hiller Ontis

7/9/1937 - 7/2/2025

Della Mae Hiller Ontis was born to Howard and Gladys Hiller in Alton, Illinois on July 7, 1937.  She was blessed to be born into a large and loving family with 5 brothers and sisters.

She grew up in Alton and married Robert Ontis Sr. on June 5, 1959.  They had 3 children and relocated to Lexington, NC in May of 1973.

Della joined her Lord after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s and Dementia at the blessed age of 87.  She was surrounded by her family and went peacefully in her sleep.

Della was a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother and dear friend to many.  She lived a life filled with love, laughter and kindness.  She was known for her warm smile, gentle demeanor and unwavering generosity.

She found joy in the simplest moments spent with family and friends and helping others. In her free time, she took solace in quilting and painting.  She touched the lives of many and will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and gentle spirit.

Della is survived by her daughter, Shelia Wright, three grandchildren, Thomas Murray, Josh Murray, and Alaina Starling.  She is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Rylee, Braxton, Hayden, Carson, Harper, Wyatt and Michael and a sister, Barbara Ann, a brother, Billy Joe and a loving niece, Terry Lynn.

Della is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leroy Ontis Sr., her son, Robert Leroy Ontis Jr. and her daughter, Roxanne Jean Ontis.  She is also preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Donald Lee and two sisters, Betty Lou and Donna Jean.

A service is scheduled at Greater Vision Free Will Baptist Church at 208 Arrington Drive, Lexington, NC  27295 on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 2:00pm. A visitation will be held at the church from 1:00pm to 2:00pm prior to the service. She will be laid to rest at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Preacher Doug McGee will officiate.

    Della was the kindest person you could ever meet . I grew up playing with her daughter Roxanne. Both her and her husband were so kind to me .
