James Ernest Rushing Sr.

SMSgt James E Rushing -USAF Retired passed away at home on January 29, 2026, at the age of 78 with his beloved cat, Moose, and dog Saylor by his side.

He was welcomed into heaven by his  daughter, Thea (Baker.) Jim was deeply loved, especially by his granddaughter Ocean Halle Boles, whom he helped raise and affectionately nicknamed “Oatmeal.”  He was a steady presence in her life, and was always there when she needed him.

He is also survived by Blythe Cochran, her husband Jimmy and (grand)son JD Cochran V.

He referred to the girls as his SOSD and they in return called him their SOSD.  They shared lots of family jokes.

Jim and his wife were married two weeks shy of 31 years.  He served honorably in the US Air National Guard, and lived a life guided by duty, service, and protection of others.  Always ready, always the Minuteman. He leaves many others behind who have a  high regard for him, family, friends, neighbors, especially his brothers – in – arms.
