Obituary For Casey Lee Kepley

Casey Lee Kepley (49) of Winston-Salem, NC gained freedom from his ailing body on Saturday, August 22, 2026. He was preceded in death by his beloved father, James ‘Casey’ Kepley just two months ago, grandparents Willie and Lois Kepley and William ‘Bill’ and Betty Utt, and niece Brittany Gregg.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his mother Sheila Kepley, sister and brother-in-law Christy and Billy Gregg, and his only son and best friend Kyler Kepley. Although he was Uncle Casey to so many, he played a very special role in the lives of his nephews Nate Gregg and Jaden Fishel, his favorite niece Allison Gregg and all their young children.

As a child, Casey looked like ‘messy Marvin’, wore an eye patch, bottle-thick glasses and was bullied by those who dared engage the wrath of his tiny big sister. Despite early struggles, he grew into a teenage heart throb of the nineties, became Mr. Popularity, and never settled down. He learned the construction business as a youngster and could easily run heavy equipment under any condition as owner of Kepley Enterprises.

Casey loved racing at Ace, Bowman Gray, Caraway and Friendship Motor Speedway. He provided his own accurate weather forecast every Saturday night for Bowman Gray Stadium where he previously raced #8 Sportsman and continued to serve as spotter for numerous winning race teams. On Sundays, he would most often be found at Wilshire Golf Course where he spent years perfecting his game and betting on that success. He was also a most avid Tarheel and Panthers fan. However, no sport superseded the pride and love of being Kyler’s dad – his single most important endeavor.

Casey suffered with metastatic brain cancer for eight years but never missed a birthday, kid’s game or race with coffee or Mountain Dew and cigarettes in hand. He never stopped being the life of the party and lived every day as if it were his last. He was most charming and friendly – unless you wanted to argue ball games, cars or politics, especially on social media in which case he may have called you a democrat (as an insult).

The family will plan a celebration of Casey’s life to be held in the coming weeks.

Prayers for the family I first met Casey about 20 or so years ago he dug footing for houses I drove a concrete truck me and him just hit it off he always liked seeing me pull up on the job because he knew it was going to be easy on him years later when he did driveways lol this is funny he would tell the plant it was hard to get in so 9 times out of 10 they send me I would put on the ground for him where he could really not rake really just bull float it he always was nice to me he was also great friend

We only knew Casey for a short time but found out he was also a wonderful carpenter. He and Kyler replaced the porch floor on our 100 year old house and he was so meticulous in doing so. He was hoping to get that side of his business going again after battling cancer and then it struck again. We know he fought the good fight and has raced on to heaven where he will be forever more. Thinking of his family and friends, especially Kyler whom he spoke of with so much love and pride.
