Obituary For James 'Casey' Raymond Kepley

James R. ‘Casey’ Kepley, 81 of Winston-Salem, NC passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026. He was preceded in death by parents Willie Franklin Kepley and Lois Virginia McMahan, brother Willie ‘Frank’ Kepley Jr., son Jonathan Ross Kepley, and granddaughter Brittany Gregg.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 53 years, Sheila Utt Kepley, daughter Christy Gregg (Billy), sons Casey Kepley Jr. and Scott Kepley (Terri), and sister Honorable Bonnie Koontz of Charleston, SC. Casey also leaves nine grandchildren: Kyler, Nate, Jaden, Allison, Peyton, Carter, Morgan, McKenzie and Matthew, several great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many others he considered family.

The charisma of Casey cannot be summed in a paragraph. He was a strong, smart, witty man who most loved bringing hope and laughter to others. By trade, Casey was an excellent carpenter, formerly owner of Kepley Construction Co., but he built so much more than houses; he created a home for others. He was a true giver, believed everyone deserved benefit of doubt, and was the king of second chances. To Casey, no person or object was beyond repair. Affectionately known as Pops or Pawpaw by so many, he provided unconditional friendship, guidance, and even his home to those who simply needed some support to begin a new chapter. Casey truly enjoyed auto racing (former driver of #8 Blunderbust at Bowman Gray Stadium), golfing, fishing, and playing cards (gambling) – anything fun with family and friends.

In accordance with his wishes, no public service will be held. To support the exceptional care received, donations may be made to Hospice (Trellis Supportive Care).
