Obituary For Michael Dennis Hussey

Michael Dennis Hussey, 73 of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side at Atrium Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on July 8, 2025.

Born on March 7, 1952 in Barre, Vermont, he was the son of John Hussey Jr. and Marjorie (Bilodeau) Hussey. He was father to Michelle Hilliard (Steve) of Lexington and Martin Hussey of High Point, and Nandad to Sebastian Hilliard.

Moving to Lexington from Vermont in 1977, Michael was probably better known by the nickname “Yank” and never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had worked in the past at Leggett & Platt, Tarheel Paving, as well as a truck driver for The State of North Carolina and Black Concrete. Michael had attended Spaulding High School in Barre, Vermont and although did not graduate took pride in the fact that years later he obtained his GED from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in Salisbury, NC.

Throughout his life found great pleasure in his “spirits”, dancing, shooting pool, bingo, horseshoes, playing a spirited game of Scrabble with his family, and would never pass up a good game of cribbage. He also enjoyed going to games to watch Sebastian play football or soccer. A past member of Tyro Baptist Church, he had also held positions at the Reeds Volunteer Fire Department, the Reeds Civitan Club, and the Lexington and Spencer Moose Lodges.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John Hussey III, Steve Hussey, and Daniel Hussey Sr. along with sisters Patricia Haynes, Edith Robbins, Maureen Graves, and Dawn Dodge. He is survived by his children, grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews. a special sister-in-law Phyllis Hussey, along with the mother of his children Mary Carpenter and her husband Charles.

We also want to say a special thank you to Tina Hilliard along with the staff at Atrium Health 4th floor ICU, and those at the Cancer Center for all their care and help during our father’s stay with them.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to West Davidson Food Pantry or charity of your choice. Private arrangements will be made at a later date at the convenience of the family. We will miss him dearly and he will forever be in our hearts.
