Obituary For Sherry Irene Rayfield Barnhardt
On August 29, 2025 at 9:22pm, Sherry Irene Rayfield Barnhardt, 68, took her first breath of Heavenly air as she stepped into her eternal home with her Saviour, Jesus Christ. Sherry was more than just the cherished wife of Don and more than a loving mother of Jerry and Bambi. She was the glue that held the family and the link that pieced us all together. She took part in raising all of her family and a plethora of kids in the community. She was a devoted member of Tyro Methodist and retired there after a long tenure of being the director of T.A.S.K.
Sherry was funny, loud, and sometimes embarrassing, but she didn’t waver on what she believed in. You knew where and what she stood for; she held fast and she did not change for anyone. She taught us morals, the value of life, and an ethical standard to live by. She wanted the best for us, teaching us to be strong leaders, thinkers, and encouraged us to always put others before ourselves, while not giving into the temptation to follow the crowd. Sherry was strong and mentally, emotionally, and spiritually even when her body grew weak. Sherry was real. She was devoted, loyal, honest and genuine. There will never be another one like her. The Lord broke the mold when He made her.
Sherry was born July 20, 1957 in Cabarrus County to the late Burkley Howard (Bill) Jr. and Mae Ashlyn Rayfield. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Burkley Howard (Billy) Rayfield III, and her beloved niece, Tabitha Rayfield. Sherry leaves behind Don, her husband and best friend of 43 years. A son, Jerry Rayfield, his wife, Nikki; a daughter, Bambi Thomas, her husband, Jason; a brother, Scott Rayfield with his wife, Angie, a sister in law, Susan Rayfield; a stepson, Kent Barnhardt, with his wife, Karen; her grandchildren, Ashlyn Rayfield, Jerrett Rayfield, Sadie Rayfield, Charli Thomas, Jake Thomas, Chord Thomas, Gates Cook, Madison Cook, Carry Penny, Ethan Barnhardt, one great grandchild, Josephine Barnhardt and a slew of extended friends and family.
Although Sherry will be deeply missed by her friends and family, we take comfort in not only our coveted memories of her, but the assurance that she heard the maker of Heaven and Earth say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of the Lord.”
A memorial service will be held for family and friends in the chapel at Tyro Methodist Church on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mission’s Committee at Tyro Methodist Church.
