FAQs

What is a cremation?

Cremation is the process of reducing the human body using high heat and flame. Cremation is not the final disposition of the remains, nor is it a type of funeral service.

Is a casket needed for cremation?

No, a casket is not needed when you choose cremation services. An alternative container, including urns, will work for these services.

Is embalming required prior to cremation?

Embalming is only required prior to cremation if the funeral service is taking place with the body present before the cremation process. Otherwise, embalming is not necessary.

Can the body be viewed without embalming?

If the body is not embalmed, it will begin to decompose. The embalming process helps to stop decomposition from happening and ensures that the family has more time to honor their loved one. Contact our funeral director.

Thinking about pre-planning and purchasing cremation insurance?

Pre-planning cremation services help ensure your wishes are met as well as reduce stress for your family when you pass and prevent conflicts. Purchasing these services now locks you in and helps you save money.

Can an urn be brought into church?

Yes, cremation urns can be brought into the church.

What can be done with the cremated remains?

Cremation remains can be scattered in a favorite or meaningful place, kept inside an urn and placed in your home or a cemetery, made into beautiful keepsake jewelry, and more.

How long does the actual cremation take?

The actual cremation takes about three to four hours, with another hour or two for processing. After the body has been cremated, it generally takes about seven to ten days to return the ashes to the family.

What do the cremated remains look like?

Human ashes look like the white-gray ashes you’d find in a fire pit. The texture is generally coarse.

Do I need an urn?

You do not need an urn specifically, but a container for the remains is required.
